After an early start, we were excited by the heat of the sun beaming down as we headed down the M1 towards Southampton! Today our road trip is to visit the Barnardos Project – Miss U-U Turn.

The project was started 10-11 years ago as a young woman’s project in Southampton, however after a scoping exercise in Portsmouth, Hampshire and Southampton the project changed it’s focus to working with young people at risk off or being sexually exploited. For having a small ish team the project are involved in a wide range of different service provision. The main bulk of the work they do is directly with young people in a 1:1 context. As well as direct work with young people the project have been involved in various scoping exercises in surrounding towns and area’s to determine if services are required.

As well as these pieces of work members of the team are involved in CSE training across the county with various statutory and non statutory agencies. Project workers shared about some of the creative ways in which workers were engaging young people around issues of CSE – hopefully we will be able to showcase some of these soon on our Youth Participation Website.  It was also great to see that the project has a dedicated boy’s and young men’s worker! It was definitely worth the early start to meet this team! Thank you again for your having us!
