NWG Conference and CSE Awareness Day 2015

Posted on

Wow, what a fantastic response we have had from you all. Not only through your evaluation forms (which I have to thank you for because we had more returned to us than ever this time, perhaps all those threats worked!) but in the follow up tweets, comments and emails that so many of you were kind enough to send us.

The conference and the CSE Awareness Day far exceeded our expectations, and that is fundamentally down to you all, the enthusiasm you all had to get involved in the CSE Awareness Day was exceptional! And so many creative ideas, you are all amazing, we know how much work has to go into planning and executing these events. Unfortunately you have set the bar very high for yourselves for next year , but you do have time to plan if you start now.

The conference its self was extremely successful with really interactive engagement from all those who attend.  Without the variety of discussion groups for delegates to pick from, allowing everyone to ‘tailor make’ their own days, and the sharing of knowledge with others which is so critical now and is what makes this your event. Hearing from Dr Lois Lee from Children in the Night of how she has experienced CSE in USA, ACPO Lead for CSE Chief Constable Simon Bailey on how the police will tackle the issue, University of Bedfordshire Dr Camille Warrington highlighting the research with young people on Making Justice Count, Centre Against Child Trafficking and Human Trafficking in Holland Ineke Van Buren who spoke about her  service and the therapeutic interventions they use and then finally Lorin Lafave, a very brave lady who spoke about being a mother of a child exploited online and the tragic circumstance that led to gave us all a sense of how much everyone is  aware and how much everyone is now doing to tackle the issues our young people face.

The great need to exchange effective practice, what works and what doesn’t work is so important and the engagement with so many to share has been very welcome by all those who attended.  Please see the evaluation on our public resources HERE We have always said the network is your network and it was evident that so many of you valued meeting others who work in the same difficult arena, many of you becoming well acquainted now that is like meeting old friends.  We heard on a number of occasions that it felt like a family, and we continue to grow all the time. If you feel you are doing apiece of work that you think will make an interesting breakout group next year, keep a look out for our call for submissions in September when we will endeavour to choose subjects to create a range of topics. The CSE Awareness Day was top of many peoples social media feeds, our #CSEDay15 and #HelpingHands trended on Twitter beating #Budget2015 and our Thunderclap reached 2,078,476.
The coverage of the day was  widespread; here are some of the local media stories we managed to pick up:
