NWG Police and Justice Lead 2022

The NWG Network are delighted to welcome a new member of staff to our team.

Lin Sands recently joined the NWG as the Police & Justice Lead.

Lin has more than 40 years of Safeguarding practice and investigation experience gained from an extensive career within the Police service and as a nationally renowned Independent Safeguarding Consultant/Trainer.

Lin is a qualified Safeguarding subject expert; who has provided independent investigation reports for Education Tribunals, Judicial Reviews & Civil litigation. Prior to joining the NWG, Lin was a Regional Practice Coordinator within the Barnardo’s Independent Child Trafficking Guardianship service; and was an independent voice for children who had been trafficked and exploited and had someone with parental responsibility, within England/Wales.

Lin has worked directly with a variety of organisations and charities by providing them with Safeguarding advise/training/advocacy; Lin provided mentoring/support to carers and has supported families to access suitable accommodation after becoming homeless due to them fleeing Modern Slavery or Domestic Abuse.

Lin holds a Masters Degree in Disability Studies; her dissertation focused on the subject of access to justice and particularly the use of Special Measures for ‘Vulnerable Witnesses/Defendants’, within the Criminal Justice process.

Lin is currently reviewing the Disruption Training and accompanying Toolkit for our members and always has an ‘open door’ if you wish to discuss specific concerns, ideas or issues relating to the exploitation of children and young people.
