| Reports & Publications National Police Insight Team Data This MSOIC Unit overview of live modern slavery investigations covers data for the month of January 2023. There are currently at least 3637 live Modern Slavery police investigations being undertaken across the UK. There are active investigations across all policing regions. This document is produced to help inform the work that non-law enforcement agencies are doing in response to Modern Slavery and Human Trafficking. Slavery at Home: a New Bill to Tackle Slavery in Britain Report This new paper from the joint modern slavery unit at the Centre for Social Justice recommends four ways to strengthen the modern slavery system to meet this evolving challenge by introducing the new modern slavery bill and strategy proposed last year. These recommendations include stamping out an emerging form of slavery known as ‘cuckooing’, getting tough on modern slavery offenders to ensure that justice is served with the strength and seriousness these crimes deserve, shifting the balance in business supply chains and creating long-term support for confirmed victims of modern slavery. Restating the Case for a Single Enforcement Body Report This Nottingham University’s Rights Lab research project and report revisits the creation of a Single Enforcement Body (SEB), and aims to assist and encourage policy debates on the opportunities that a SEB offers by mapping out key considerations from interviews with experts in the field. Counter-Trafficking Monitoring and Evaluation Toolkit The Rights Lab (University of Nottingham) in collaboration with Asia Combating Trafficking in Persons (CTIP), have launched their toolkit for anti-trafficking civil society organisations. This Toolkit provides rapid and bespoke monitoring and evaluation support, and has two key components. The Indicator Repository which is a list of measurement indicators for different areas of counter-trafficking activity, guidance on their use and application, and steer on how to analyse data collected using them. The Monitoring and Evaluation Resource Library which is a set of resources, tools and guides on different aspects of monitoring and evaluation practice. Find out more here. Resources on Unaccompanied Asylum Seeking Children in Hotels ECPAT UK has shared the following publications that offer insight into the concerns around unaccompanied asylum seeking children (UASC) placed in Home Office hotels who are regularly reported as missing and are at a high risk of exploitation. ECPAT UK’s report Outside the Frame: unaccompanied children denied care and protection offers a detailed background into the issues and the Refugee and Migrant Children’s Consortium briefing provides recommendations for Parliamentarians. |
| Events & Training Migration and Modern Slavery Conference The Wilberforce Institute, University of Hull invites you to their upcoming free two-day conference. This conference aims to bring together leading academics and practitioners to explore and discuss the importance of considering modern slavery from the perspectives of individuals with lived experiences and those who may be vulnerable to exploitation. Supporting Female Survivors in the UK: from Rescue to Recovery Webinar Unseen and Justice & Care are hosting a free webinar panel discussion for International Women’s Day. Whilst modern slavery can happen to anyone, women and girls are disproportionately affected, accounting for 71% of trafficking victims globally. This event will shine a spotlight on what is being done to tackle this alarming abuse of women, and bring them to a place of safety and hope. 8th March 12pm – 1pm, register for your place here. #LookCloser Campaign’s Programme of Learning #LookCloser is a partnership campaign between The Children’s Society, the National County Lines Co-ordination Centre and the British Transport Police aiming to raise awareness of child exploitation and abuse and to encourage the public and businesses to better identify and report concerns. The campaign’s programme of learning can be found here which includes new sessions on both disruption and transitional safeguarding alongside a range of other topics. Launch of AFRUCA’s Phoenix Project For Young Women and Girls AFRUCA invites you to join them 8th March 12.30pm at their Centre in Manchester as thy launch the Phoenix Project to support young women and girls at risk of exploitation across Manchester. This three year project is funded by the Home Office via Manchester City Council. AFRUCA will present the project and its intended outcomes, deliverables and opportunities to collaborate to support targeted young people. Find out more and register here. |

| HTF Resources Lived Experience Advisory Panel (LEAP) Consultancy The Lived Experience Advisory Panel (LEAP) was established to ensure the expertise of those with lived-experience is embedded in the work of the anti-trafficking sector and is made up of independent consultants who co-work with HTF. LEAP can offer the development and delivery of training (online, pre-recorded and in person), work with organisations to create or redesign training packages, provide expert advice on policy documents, research and guidance on supporting survivors of trafficking, join round tables on specific areas of modern slavery, sit on interview panels, undertake group focus groups and partake in 1 on 1 interviews. HTF’s Survivor Hub Survivor advocates and HTF have created an online Survivor Hub, a place for survivors to find opportunities for work and paid research participation, to find resources on education, housing support, the NRM, mental health support and includes directories of support providers and legal advisors across the country. If your organisation has resources or opportunities that you would like included please email [email protected] Updated London Modern Slavery SPOC Directory The Human Trafficking Foundation has been working with local authorities in the Greater London area to support the development of their response to modern slavery and human trafficking. As part of this, we produce an annual directory of Modern Slavery Single Points of Contact/Champions in statutory authorities across London including representatives within the NHS, police and local authorities. London Directory of Services HTF has created a Directory of Services, bringing together details of support agencies for survivors of modern slavery across London. The Directory is a live document, with more organisations added all the time. Access it now on our website under resources.
