The Independent Inquiry into Child Sexual Abuse (IICSA) issued their final report in October 2022 and called the nature and scale of child sexual abuse in England and Wales “horrific and deeply disturbing” concluding that “child protection must be given a much greater priority in public life.”

As the Inquiry has concluded, the baton has been passed to the IICSA Changemakers – a group of charities, law enforcement, frontline public sector organisations, health, sport bodies and survivors – who want to ensure the evidence, research and findings from IICSA’s work are taken forward to inspire a national mission to prevent child sexual abuse and provide much improved support to victims and survivors. To deliver this mission the representation and inclusion of survivor voice is essential.

On behalf of the IICSA Changemakers, the NSPCC is recruiting for a Survivor Participation Manager to lead the delivery of outcomes agreed by the group so victims and survivors are enabled to share their expertise with government, policymakers and other key stakeholders. The postholder will have lived or connected experience of child sexual abuse. The successful candidate will also be able to demonstrate expertise in the following areas:  

• Participation and survivor engagement including design of processes and delivery of high quality, meaningful participation strategies with survivors of abuse
• Collaboration and facilitation skills with a track record of being an inspiring team player
• Project management skills including effective co-ordination of multiple stakeholders and projects
• Excellent communication skills and ability to successfully influence a wide range of audiences
• Knowledge of policy and practice issues related to safeguarding and child protection, particularly child sexual abuse

The Survivor Participation Manager will be responsible for ensuring there is victim and survivor voice and insights feeding into and influencing IICSA Changemakers work under core areas of policy and practice. They will work to the Head of Programmes to co-ordinate and support the delivery of outcomes agreed by, and with, the IICSA Changemakers.

The IICSA Changemakers’ work plan for the next 12 months will involve influencing senior members of Government, parliamentarians and other key decisionmakers, the bringing together of cross sector groups to formulate positions and plans and ensuring the work of the IICSA Changemakers is trauma-informed and inclusive. We are looking for someone who has a proven ability to reach out, engage and support.
