This newsletter is an opportunity for Human Trafficking Foundation (HTF) Forum members to publicise events, projects, research, campaigns and job opportunities. You can see recordings or download minutes of our previous online events here.

Nominations Open for Anti-Slavery Day Awards 2024
The Human Trafficking Foundation holds an annual awards ceremony to mark Anti-Slavery Day, supported by Marsh Charitable Trust. We recognise both the work of groups and individuals who fight modern slavery and human trafficking and the vital work of the media in increasing awareness and understanding of the issue. Nominations for both Media Categories (Guidelines here and nomination form here) and Outstanding Contributions to the Fight Against Modern Slavery Categories (Guidelines here and nomination form here) are now open for 2024. Anyone working to tackle modern slavery or anyone who benefits from the services that an organisation responding to modern slavery provides can submit a nomination. Deadline: Friday 9th August 5pm.

Human Trafficking Foundation Online Forum on Co-Working Between Lived and Learnt Experience
HTF and the Lived Experience Advisory Panel (LEAP) invites you to attend our upcoming online forum on co-working between lived and learnt experience. The online event will be an opportunity to take learnings from people with lived experience and learnings from people with learnt experience to achieve a productive and effective co-working environment in the anti-trafficking sector. Independent Seasonal Worker Surveys: Request for Proposals
The Seasonal Worker Scheme Taskforce from Stronger Together is seeking a delivery partner to provide an ongoing, regular, independent survey of UK seasonal workers’ recruitment and on-farm experiences at grower and Scheme Operator level, in order to identify and inform actions that can be taken in-season to address working, living and human rights challenges. Sophie Hayes Foundation Employability Programme: Next cohort
The Sophie Hayes Foundation’s Employability Programme focuses on helping women survivors of human trafficking build confidence through coaching and skills development including vocational work guidance, volunteer opportunities, training, and formal education. The Programme is now open for referrals. Deadline: 12th July. Make a referral here or email for more information.
Modern Slavery Charities Launch Manifesto for Next Government
13 organisations supporting survivors of modern slavery have come together to set out a manifesto calling on the next government to renew the UK’s approach to supporting victims of this crime, ensuring the physical and psychological safety of victims is first priority. Read the full manifesto here.
Stop Slavery Blueprint Toolkit Updated
The Shiva Foundation has updated their Stop Slavery Blueprint Toolkit, which sets out the key principles to be embedded into hotel and other hospitality businesses to address modern slavery and exploitation. The new version provides detailed guidance and recommendations on statements, supply chain risks, labour risks, and reporting and remediation. It also offers guidance on collaboration with suppliers, business partners, and local organisations, along with various templates, such as a training package, that can be adapted to individual businesses.
EXTENDED DEADLINE: Anti-Trafficking Sector Survey: Non-Statutory First Responder Capacity
In recent weeks some non-statutory First Responders have had to turn down requests for referrals due to lack of capacity. To find out more, Kalayaan and ATMG are reaching out to anti-trafficking NGOs, healthcare workers, legal practitioners and other statutory or non-statutory organisations who support survivors accessing First Responders to take part in this survey. They are aiming to produce a short statement with an analysis of how the situation affects potential survivors’ ability to access support in the NRM, and how it impacts non-statutory First Responders. Deadline: Friday 5th July.
Reports and Publications
Assessing the Modern Slavery Impacts of the Nationality and Borders Act: One Year On
The Human Trafficking Foundation, with the British and International Institute of Comparative Law (BIICL) and the Anti-Trafficking Monitoring Group (ATMG), have published a report to document the effects of the Nationality and Borders Act 2022, categorised across impacts on decision-making outcomes, impacts on people with lived experience of modern slavery, and impacts on organisations working in the modern slavery sector. The project was funded by the Modern Slavery and Human Rights Policy and Evidence Centre (Modern Slavery PEC). Read the report here.
12 Years of Modern Slavery
This new report provides evidence compiled by Kalayaan of the experiences of migrant domestic workers in the UK over the last 12 years. It dismantles 8 myths used when rejecting calls to reinstate labour law rights for workers, and demonstrates why concessions that have been introduced since 2012 have fallen short of the protections that all workers are entitled to and were provided for under the visa regime prior to 2012.
2024 Trafficking in Persons Report
The Trafficking in Persons (TIP) Report is the U.S. Government’s principal diplomatic tool to engage foreign governments on human trafficking. It measures the progress of 188 countries as they respond to human trafficking. Read the 2024 publication here.
Broken Promises: Forced Labour in Saudi Arabia and the Fast-Tracked World Cup Bid
Equidem have published a report that details in-depth, confidential, one-to-one interviews with 42 migrant workers from May-December 2023 and February 2020-July 2021, documenting labour and human rights violations facing migrant workers in the hospitality, maintenance and construction sectors in Saudi Arabia.
New Reports by United Nations University Centre for Policy Research
The UNU has published new reports on Financial Inclusion to Protect Vulnerable Populations from Modern Slavery which looks at current practices addressing how financial inclusion can protect vulnerable populations from modern slavery, and Harnessing Financial Inclusion for Sustainable Development, which explores the topic of mitigating modern slavery risks through National Financial Inclusion Strategies.

Resources for Trauma Summer Series
St. Mary’s University will be hosting ‘Resources for Trauma’, an online three-part summer series by international experts, aiming to resource and equip those working with trauma. The sessions run from 3.30pm-5pm. Developing Embodied Practices of Self-Regulation (Tuesday 9th July), Expanding the Safe Space to the Brave Space (Wednesday 10th July), Good Care for the Unfamiliar Other (Thursday 11th July).
An Audience with Unseen’s Frontline and Helpline Teams
In this session, you’ll hear directly from the people behind Unseen’s services – the Modern Slavery & Exploitation Helpline, safehouses, and outreach team. The event will be an opportunity to gain insights into the inner workings of the Helpline and safehouses, and discover how you can play a role in raising awareness. Tuesday 30th July 12-12.45pm. Caritas Bakhita House provides female survivors of trafficking with the safety and support to allow them to begin their recovery process through befriending, guidance, support and resettlement. The Sophie Hayes Foundation is focused on helping survivors of modern slavery rebuild their lives and achieve sustainable freedom by providing training, coaching, work experience and advocacy across the UK. The Medaille Trust
The Medaille Trust provides frontline support to survivors of modern slavery through safe housing, community awareness projects and partnerships with local authorities and law enforcement. They are recruiting for a Senior Modern Slavery Case Worker in Waltham Forest (Deadline: Monday 8th July) and a Modern Slavery Case Worker Assistant in Manchester (Deadline: Tuesday 9th July). Lived Experience Advisory Panel (LEAP) Consultancy
Ready to take your anti-trafficking efforts to new heights? The Lived Experience Advisory Panel (LEAP) was established to ensure the expertise of those with lived-experience is embedded in the work of the anti-trafficking sector and is made up of independent consultants who co-work with HTF. LEAP can offer the development and delivery of training, provide expert advice on policy documents, and more. Find out more here and submit a request for LEAP consultancy.
HTF’s Survivor Hub
Survivor advocates and HTF have created an online Survivor Hub, a place for survivors to find opportunities for work and paid research participation, to find resources on education, housing support, the NRM, mental health support and includes directories of support providers and legal advisors across the country. HTF’s Emergency Support Fund
The Human Trafficking Foundation’s Trafficking Emergency Support Fund is available to help victims of human trafficking and modern slavery with small one-off grants to meet their immediate needs when no other sources of funding are available. If you are a support worker, you can see guidelines and complete an application form here on behalf of your client and email it to [email protected].
London Modern Slavery SPOC Directory
The Human Trafficking Foundation has been working with local authorities in the Greater London area to support the development of their response to modern slavery and human trafficking. As part of this, we produce an annual directory of Modern Slavery Single Points of Contact/Champions in statutory authorities across London including representatives within the NHS, police and local authorities.
