Prime Minister unveils game changing investment to tackle national security threat from people smuggling gangs.

The Prime Minister is set to announce an additional £75 million to boost border security, bringing the investment in the Border Security Command over the next two years to £150 million. 

Marking the first time the INTERPOL General Assembly has been hosted in the UK in over 50 years, Keir Starmer will today (4 November) open the Assembly in Glasgow by setting out his personal mission to smash the people smuggling gangs by resetting the UK’s whole approach to this challenge and intensifying international collaboration to meet the global scale of the threat.

UK to expand digital travel to more visitors.

By April 2025, all visitors who do not need a visa will need an electronic travel authorisation (ETA) to travel to the UK.

The government is taking major steps towards delivering its ambitious aim to digitise the UK border and immigration system and has today set out new implementation dates for the electronic travel authorisation (ETA) scheme.

Everyone wishing to travel to the UK – except British and Irish citizens – will need permission to travel in advance of coming here. This can be either through an ETA or an eVisa.

Home Secretary launches new support for Windrush victims.

Home Secretary commits to a ‘fundamental reset’ in the government’s response to the appalling Windrush scandal.

Victims of the Windrush scandal will be better supported to apply for compensation through a £1.5 million fund as the Home Secretary sets out a ‘fundamental reset’ to the Windrush generation.

Safer London

Safer London is calling for young women aged 18-24 who have been in police custody (who were between the ages of 18 and 24 when they were in custody), to share their experiences. Their goal is to ensure fair treatment for women in custody and to inform future guidelines for the police and legal system, as well as create a selection of custody suite resources for young women to inform them of their rights and what support is available.

Participants can share their thoughts in confidential interviews (in person or online) and receive a £50 voucher for their input. Find out more here.

ManKind Initiative Conference and Awareness Day  

The ManKind Initiative charity who support male victims of domestic abuse are holding their annual conference on 13^th November (am). It is online, free and will earn CPD points. Topics include the latest research, best practice and the experiences of two survivors. Read more about the conference here. 

The charity also convenes the annual Supporting Male Victims of Domestic Abuse Awareness Day (#MenYouAreNotAlone), which again this year is 7^th November. It asks all organisations that support male victims, to come together and publicise the support they have available to men where they live. Over 160 organisations supported this in 2023.
