A Final Goodbye From the Inquiry

In this, our final email to you, we want to thank you for your continued support for this Inquiry.  Whether you’ve contributed to our engagement work, implemented recommendations within your organisation or championed our work over the past six years, we appreciate your involvement. By now you will have had a chance to view the Inquiry’s concluding Report, published on 20 October. It is a powerful call for change and contains important recommendations about what must be done differently to better protect children in the future.  The Inquiry’s Chair, Professor Alexis Jay made an opening statement which can be viewed online. Many of you joined our recent webinar to learn more about the Report and we’re grateful for your attendance. Going forward, we encourage you to share our concluding Report and its supporting executive summary, rapid read and short video with contacts and colleagues. The more people who are aware of the scale of abuse and its impact, the more we can continue conversations and create lasting change. “We all want to ensure that children grow up in safe and supported environments and I know that the work you do every day helps this to happen for the vast majority of children in England and Wales. Unfortunately this is still not the case for every child and this must change. We’re hopeful that the findings and recommendations in this Report will lay the foundations for systematic change across England and Wales in the ways in which children are protected. Everyone has a role to play in safeguarding children and I urge you to make this a moment where you do something within your organisation to make things better.” John O’Brien, Secretary to the Inquiry A legacy for victims and survivors Through the Inquiry’s legacy project we will be placing memorial benches and plaques across England and Wales, bearing messages of hope and encouragement from victims and survivors.
