POSTPONED: Beyond Boundaries: Protecting Young People Through Partnership Organised by NWG

Online

The NWG will present findings from a recent review undertaken in an area to explore challenges and strengths in relation to out of area placements.

The event will help professionals to gain a deeper understanding of:

  • The issues facing children and young people who are Looked After and placed in an area from other authorities.
  • The current relevant safeguards to protect the safety and wellbeing of those children and young people.
  • The response from agencies to safeguarding and promoting their wellbeing.
  • The impact on services locally.
  • The impact on children, both who are Looked After and who are not.
  • Best practice that might be adopted to improve outcomes for children and young people.
  • What can be done to improve the negative impacts on local services with regards to capacity and resource.
  • The impact of failing care homes and what the multi-agency partnership can do about residential settings which may be failing but where the local authority does not commission any placements.
  • What more could be done locally to improve multi-agency working to streamline services
  • What may need to be raised regionally or nationally, which cannot be resolved locally.

The Supported Accommodation Partnership (SAP CIC) will provide ‘top tips’ on how best to safeguard young people who are placed across boroughs and boundaries, with a focus on Regulations and promoting professional curiosity.

  • Professionals will benefit from hearing about:
  • Positive practice and risk management with a focus on Matching and Impact risk assessments
  • Effective safeguarding relating to transition, into and moving on from the placement
  • Multi agency planning and information sharing
  • Understanding The Supported Accommodation (England) Regulations 2023 and a focus on Regulation 28 / OLA’s.

Attendees will have the opportunity to contribute to dynamic and reflective conversations to build confidence in managing out of area placements and effectively safeguarding young people who are moved across boroughs and boundaries.
