Delivered by Kevin Murphy NWG Safeguarding in Sports Lead and Dr. Andrea J Darling this session will briefly discuss the findings of the Independent Inquiry into Child Sexual Abuse research into child sexual abuse in sport. It will then cover findings from research into women who sexually abuse children in organisational settings, including why, and importantly, how, this type of abuse occurs. The session will discuss some case examples, including some from within sport, and consider the particular impacts on victims. There will also be an opportunities for discussion and questions around the issues raised.

Dr. Andrea J Darling

Andrea is a Research Associate at Durham University and a Senior Research Fellow on a national police programme examining responses to vulnerability. She has a practice background in child and adult safeguarding, working for over 14 years for the different vetting and barring schemes for England and Wales (including the ISA and DBS). Andrea’s research focuses on child sexual abuse in organisations and institutions. She has recently worked for the Independent Inquiry into Child Sexual Abuse, co-authoring research reports in child sexual abuse in sport, in custodial settings and religious institutions.
