In 2017 the NWG invested our time in developing an understanding of the gaps in the provision of young people 16 to 18 years old and their journey into adulthood. We welcomed Steve Baguley to the team to explore this issue in depth, we conducted a benchmarking tool and the results showed members required support in the transition of young people to adulthood.

Steve produced a report The Journey into adulthood years– It Doesn’t Stop Just Because You Are 18 in 2018 which was well received by our network.

Since then, the understanding has grown considerably, Steve has worked with several areas across England and Wales to share learning and development.

We enthusiastically welcomed the opportunity to take an active part in the development of the Transitional Safeguarding briefing and share our learning.

Recently we have honed our work to focus on the exploitation in transitional safeguarding as a specific angle related to the NWG aims visiting many areas to further assist in developing this work.

Demand has been overwhelming and to assist in managing this demand we are creating a networking forum to share the key messages of exploitation concerning this group and hosting a quarterly online forum to keep areas informed of the key emerging messages and latest developments, we will initially concentrate on the disruption, missing agenda
