Join us for this FREE online event on Wednesday 26 March 2025, 1:30pm- 4:45pm. This online conference is a space for managers and leaders across the children’s and adults’ sectors to share ideas and experiences of effective collaboration and innovation.

We all want the children we care about to become healthy, happy, safe, fulfilled adults. But supporting a smooth and positive journey into adulthood for all young people can be challenging for local areas, and particularly so for young people who face adversity and need ongoing support. The transition to adulthood is a process, not an overnight event, but many processes and policies can be binary and disjointed. Supporting young people to make this transition well is not the responsibility of any one agency, it transcends services and policy agendas, but too often local partnerships are constrained by siloed working.   

This agenda requires ambitious and coherent systems leadership. It is helpful that the current Presidents of ADCS and ADASS share a passion for improving policy and practice in relation to transitions. 

This FREE online event is a space for managers and leaders across the children’s and adults’ sectors to share ideas and experiences of effective collaboration and innovation. In this event, we will hear from:  

• Andy Smith and Melanie Williams, the 2024-25 Presidents of ADCS and ADASS on why transitions is a sector priority and how we can drive the change needed. 
• Dez Holmes, the Strategic Director of Practice & Programmes at the National Children’s Bureau and Director of Research in Practice on transitions as an issue of systems change. 
• Experts by experience who will share what helps young people to make a smooth and positive journey into adulthood.  

The event will also include workshops including local examples, exploring transitions in the context of SEND, exploitation, care and leaving care, mental health and Transitional Safeguarding.

Learning outcomes 

Participants will: 

• Conceptualise ‘transitions’ as an issue of whole system transformation. 
• Consider what a positive transition to adulthood looks like for a range of young people with diverse needs and circumstances. 
• Explore cross-cutting themes across different service areas.

I wanted to let you know that we have had a phenomenal amount of interest in this event. We have gone above the maximum number of delegates on Microsoft Teams so we will now be using Zoom for the event. 

We will be confirming the places of people who registered their interest whilst we put bookings on hold, putting us at approximately 500 participants. This does mean that your workshops will include a large number of people, which may affect how you manage interaction within your breakout. We have changed the wording of the breakout so that it is described as a seminar instead of a workshop.
