Our immediate action after Southport attacks

The Prime Minister has taken immediate action following the far-right thuggery we have seen take place after the devastating events in Southport last week.

He has promised that those taking part in this disorder – whether it be directly or online – will face the full force of the law.

The police will continue to make arrests, individuals will be held on remand, and charges and convictions will follow.

Mosques to be offered new emergency security

Mosques are being offered greater protection with new emergency security that can be rapidly deployed.

The new rapid response process means mosques at risk of violent disorder can be offered additional security personnel, providing communities with vital support and reassurance. This will boost the work already being done by local police forces to protect these important places of worship. 

Under the new process now in place, the police, local authorities and mosques can ask for rapid security to be deployed, protecting communities and allowing for a return to worship as quickly as possible.

PEGS Child to Parent Abuse Conference

PEGS is a social enterprise set up to support parents, carers and guardians who are experiencing Child to Parent Abuse (including those with adult offspring). PEGS are hosting a Child to Parent Abuse Conference on the 14th of October from 9:30am to 3:30pm.  

The International Child to Parent Abuse Conference is aimed at bringing together researchers, policy-makers, decision-takers, frontline professionals and campaigners. You can read more here.

Parent Zone digital widget

Parent Zone have introduced a free digital widget tool. The tool provides a wealth of information and advice to families around Media Literacy – available in multiple languages.

It’s designed to reach families via the places they already go to for trusted information and advice – whether that be their local library website or their children’s school’s website. You can read more here.

Crimestoppers Neighbourhood Crime

Crimestoppers have launched their Neighbourhood Crime campaign on speaking up about neighbourhood crime such as robbery, theft and burglary. The campaign focuses on three strands: Defining the crimes of theft, robbery and burglary, The impact of these crimes on victims, The long-term harms on communities. You can read more here.

Women’s Aid service for professionals

Women’s Aid is running a dedicated service for professionals who are currently working with survivors of domestic abuse, seeking refuge accommodation and support. This could include housing officers, police officers, social workers, health workers, probation officers and those working in education or the voluntary sector. We understand that it can be difficult to support survivors of domestic abuse without the ability to access specialist resources. The professionals’ service can provide dedicated support, information about safety planning, referral pathways or up-to-date refuge vacancies in a certain area, or other local specialist support, such as outreach, drop-ins, counselling services and advocacy projects.

Guide to Meaningful Survivor Engagement 

 
Women’s Aid Federations and Imkaan have launched a joint best practice guide on survivor engagement. Whilst there can be no ‘one size fits all’ approach to this critical work, they hope this guide will help others to listen to the experiences of survivors, hear their voices and understand their perspectives in a deeper and more meaningful way. This follows three years of work spent developing their approach to enabling diverse survivors of domestic abuse and other forms of violence against women and girls (VAWG) to have increased opportunities to influence local practice, policy and national decision-making.
