The London Marathon 2014

The morning after the day before: Well, my legs are killing me and I don’t seem to be able to put any weight on my ankles.
Due to having 6 teams of ‘Chelsea’s Choice’ out and about the Marathon training became inexistent and, to be honest, I nearly dropped out.
I then thought ‘bugger it!’
My aim became to get around and not come last and I managed to do that!
The first 13 miles were surprisingly good – plodding along slow and steady. Then my legs just stopped working and the last 13.2 miles where like hell on Earth.
I managed to get round in 6 hours and 22 minutes (3 hours and 20 minutes of it in immense pain). I wasn’t last and I got round, so all good!
I came in 22,000 ish, which means around 14,000 of the 36,000 who took part were behind me!
An amazing, amazing experience!
The other runners, the logistics and organisation, the marshals, the police, the water hander outers, the ‘get you back on your feet and send you on your way’ emergency massagers, the support from the thousand and thousands that lined the route, the bands, the street parties all absolutely amazing!
And nothing will ever beat seeing my lovely wife and kids watching and waving as I ran across Tower Bridge.
I intend never to do it again though!
Thanks to all who sponsored me, I ran to raise funds for The Children’s Society – you can still sponsor me at https://www.justgiving.com/SeanMcGrathAlterEgo
