Why we have a National Child Sexual Exploitation (CSE) Awareness Raising Day.

What is CSE?

It is a form of sexual abuse that involves the manipulation and/or coercion of young people under the age of 18 into sexual activity.

The Department for Education 2017 definition of CSE is:

Child sexual exploitation is a form of child sexual abuse. 

It occurs where an individual or group takes advantage of an imbalance of power to coerce, manipulate or deceive a child or young person under the age of 18 into sexual activity (a) in exchange for something the victim needs or wants, and/or (b) for the financial advantage or increased status of the perpetrator or facilitator. 

The victim may have been sexually exploited even if the sexual activity appears consensual. 

Child sexual exploitation does not always involve physical contact; it can also occur through the use of technology.

 

The NWG believe that everyone has a role to play in raising awareness of Child Sexual Exploitation.

We believe that safeguarding children is everybody’s business.

We know that any child can be sexually exploited no matter what culture, ethnicity, religion, whether a boy or a girl and from any background.

The National Child Sexual Exploitation Awareness Raising Day aims to highlight the issues surrounding Child Sexual Exploitation; encouraging everyone to think, spot and speak out against abuse and adopt a zero tolerance to adults developing inappropriate relationships with children and children forming inappropriate sexual relationships with their peers

NWG are committed to the fight against Child Sexual Exploitation and supporting victims and their families who are subjected to CSE but they cannot succeed without the support of people like you.
