 National Gymnastics Day 2023

Posted on

The 16th of September marks National Gymnastics Day 2023. The purpose is to encourage all gymnasts, coaches, gymnastics clubs, and fans to celebrate the 25th annual National Gymnastics Day and to Share flips, leaps, handstands, and general love for the sport of gymnastics on social media using the hashtag #NGD2023

It is important to recognise, mark and celebrate this special day, whilst also prioritising the safety and welfare of children participating in gymnastics and other sports/physical activities. We cannot forget about those victims and survivors who bravely spoke out about their personal experiences of abuse in gymnastics. We cannot forget the long-term emotional, physical and psychological impact on those gymnasts who placed their trust in the sport and those operating within it.

The NWG welcome the spotlight that has been shone on abuse in different sports, including the Whyte review which examined abuse in British Gymnastics, and we hope investigations such as these continue to have a positive impact in our collective fight against sexual abuse and exploitation.

Below are some resources and articles that may be helpful including UK Sport’s and Sport England’s joint policy response to the Whyte Review setting out 19 commitments and NWG posters that can be used to raise awareness within your networks.
