New unit to tackle exploitation of vulnerable young people
It is nearly three years since the NWG was delighted to be chosen to host the government’s CSE Taskforce after being identified as the preferred provider via a single tender process. Since the CSE Response Unit was launched we have been proud to have supported more than 20,000 practitioners from frontline staff to directors of services across a range of sectors.
Over the past two and a half years we have increasingly come to view CSE within the context of broader vulnerabilities and other forms of exploitation and abuse and have assisted agencies and partnerships to respond to these issues in a more joined up way.
We have used our relationship with the Department for Education to highlight this approach as a pragmatic response to professional knowledge of the ever-changing face of exploitation. We were pleased to hear of the government’s plans to build on what we, and others, have achieved since 2016 and create an extension of the unit’s work to support professionals addressing the broader context of exploitation.
We look forward to hearing more about the detail of government’s plan for the new initiative in the coming month and considering our position with a view to submitting a tender for the proposed unit.
