The NWG do not wish to create any undue confusion for practitioners or to undermine any ongoing work by launching our new assessment tool in Wales.
That said, we have consulted in depth with practitioners, parents, carers and young people to develop the new tool that we are currently launching through a series of events across England. The findings from our consultations also reflect recent research that has been commissioned by the Centre of Expertise, due to be published next month, which is encouraging for us as we know that the research echoes practice experience in this area.
Our methodology is described during our launch event presentations in England, in addition to providing comprehensive context to the work, which I am more than happy to share with any of you if that would be helpful. The new tool will require a considerable shift in practice and change in culture but this should result in more informed assessment, planning and outcomes for children and young people.
