Government news and campaigns

Local COVID-19 alert level update 

After close discussions with local leaders, the following areas will move from local COVID alert level: medium to local COVID alert level: high from Saturday 17 October 00:01:

• London (all 32 boroughs and the City of London)
• Elmbridge
• Essex (area covered by Essex County Council only)
• Barrow-in-Furness
• York
• North East Derbyshire
• Erewash
• Chesterfield

Lancashire will move to local COVID alert level: very high from Saturday 17 October 00:01.

You can use the postcode checker to find out if these restrictions affect your area. These measures will be reviewed every 14 days to consider whether they are still appropriate.

Thinkuknow – CEOP Online Toolkits 

Thinkuknow have launched a collection of new online safety toolkits, containing 15-minute activities designed to be delivered by professionals across all education settings. Toolkits are available for young people aged:

• 5 to 7
• 8 to 10
• 11 to 13
• 14+

The activities cover themes such as: sharing pictures and videos, chatting online, gaming, online friendships and socialising, and live streaming.

Safer London 

Safer London have released their year three report on the Pan-London Housing Reciprocal scheme, which is funded by the Mayor’s Office for Policing and Crime.

The scheme, which launched in 2017, connects social housing providers across London to help relocate individuals and families experiencing domestic abuse and other forms of violence.

Safer London have also commissioned some research from the Contextual Safeguarding team at the University of Bedfordshire around the importance of young people’s peer relationships. Key findings have been published in a blog post, as well as the full research briefing.

Internet Matters Report 

Internet Matters have published a report which details the online experiences of schoolchildren, age 11-16. The report is the result of nearly 15,000 young people’s survey responses from 82 schools across the country, and includes elements such as activities, relationships and risks.
