Who has created this survey?
The Association for Young People’s Health (AYPH) has created this survey working with Brook and BASHH.
AYPH works to improve young people’s health and wellbeing, Brook is a sexual health and wellbeing charity for young people and BASHH is an association professionals working in sexual health and HIV.
The purpose of this survey.
Brook and BASHH have been given money by the Department of Health and Social Care to update their toolkit, Spotting the Signs (StS). The toolkit’s purpose is to help professionals who work with young people under 18 to better spot and respond to violence and/or exploitation.
We are asking for young people’s thoughts and opinions to help update the toolkit. Our aim is to make the toolkit even better to help professionals respond to young people who need support.

This survey is anonymous. It will ask some details about you – your age, gender etc, however nothing that will be able to identify you. This information helps us ensure a range of young people are involved in this process. Your feedback will only be used for improvement of the Spotting the Signs toolkit.
Definition violence and exploitation.
We are working with a broad definition of violence and exploitation. It could mean acts of violence or threat of violence, as well as young people being asked/expected to do anything that they do not willingly consent to. This could be criminal behaviours or sexual abuse.                                                                                                                          Keeping safe.
Violence and exploitation are difficult subjects to think about. However, we believe this doesn’t mean young people shouldn’t be asked their opinions on them – how else would we ensure the toolkit works for young people?
It is really important that you keep emotionally safe while filling this out. We will not ask you about your personal experiences. Please make sure that you only share what you are comfortable sharing. There are some links to helplines at the end of the survey for additional support. Or, you might want to reach out to a trusted person so that they are there for you if you need them.
