| Yesterday, the second meeting of our recently established Global Taskforce on child sexual abuse online took place. This Taskforce brings together the European Union, African Union and nineteen governments from around the world and aims to promote improved cooperation and collaboration among governments. In this meeting, chaired by the European Commission, the Taskforce members discussed legislative progress and challenges across the globe. They reflected on how to best use our Model National Response and the development of a Maturity Model and Self-Assessment tool. The participants also talked about identifying better ways to share information and collaborate across borders. NEWS Recruiting for a Head of Development – A newly created role at WeProtect Global Alliance, focused on enabling the sustainability and resilience of our work to end child sexual abuse online. We’re looking for someone with a strong track record in developing comprehensive income-generation strategies, securing diverse funding, effectively engaging donors, managing relationships and producing high-quality presentations and reports. DEADLINE: 5 MAY LOCATION: HOME-BASED, UK, WITH REGULAR NATIONAL AND INTERNATIONAL TRAVEL Ecuador joins the Alliance – We are delighted to announce that Ecuador has joined the Alliance, bringing the number of government members to 101. Our 2023-2025 strategy – It sets out an approach to preventing child sexual abuse online similar to the long-term and resilient public health approaches that worked to reduce deaths caused by smoking or save lives through increasing car safety. Mapping child and survivor participation initiatives – We have recently updated the map, adding 11 new initiatives. Submit an initiative MEMBER SPOTLIGHT Malaysia’s government criminalising live-streaming of sexual acts involving children -The Malaysian Parliament have passed the third reading of a bill criminalising “directly participating, organising, promoting, directing the abuse, or receiving money” relating to the livestreaming of child sexual abuse. MALAYSIA Twitter chat for Child Abuse Prevention Month #CAPM23 – Yesterday, the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children (NCMEC) hosted a Twitter chat on the occasion of the US Child Abuse Prevention Mont. Together with many other organisations, we also joined the chat. You can see our contribution to the Twitter chat here. NATIONAL CENTER FOR MISSING & EXPLOITED CHILDREN (NCMEC) PIER23: Tackling online harms, a whole system approach – The event, hosted in Chelmsford, UK, and online, on 23-24 May, will bring together leaders responsible for tackling the threat and implications of child sexual abuse online for victims, their families and offenders. POLICING INSTITUTE FOR THE EASTERN REGION (PIER) Primary Prevention to Protect Children – This report analyses innovative research on help-seeking behaviours of online child sexual abuse offenders and their pathways to the dark web. SUOJELLAAN LAPSIA The Ideal Internet Report 2019 – 2020 – Reflecting on “What does it take to build a better future for all children?”, this report particularly focuses on the role of the internet & tech. THE RATI FOUNDATION FOR SOCIAL CHANGE Institutionalizing Public Narrative for survivor leadership with International Justice Mission – At this event, taking place on 26 April, participants will learn about IJM’s work of institutionalising public narrative into their organisational strategy and programmes to develop survivor leadership. INTERNATIONAL JUSTICE MISSION (IJM) OUR PROTECTORS’ PORTAL -Our Protectors’ Portal is an online community of over 300 members sharing their learning and working together to protect children from sexual abuse online. Our Portal members have published discussions covering a wide range of different topics.
