Basis Training and Education provides specialist, accredited training, education and research on the social issues affecting our communities today. Basis is connected to a network of charitable projects specialising in Child Sexual Exploitation and adult sex work. This charity, Genesis Leeds was established in 1989 and all our income raised in reinvested back into intensive service delivery supporting some of Leeds most vulnerable communities. Building on years of experience working on the front-line, Basis blends together ‘on the ground knowledge’ of key social issues with professional training and customer service to provide organisations with a high quality learning experience. We have delivered therapeutic post-sexual abuse services for children/young people for 25 years. Over this time our contract in Kent to provide emotional wellbeing services of this nature has changed from a pilot service supporting all young people requiring therapeutic intervention in Swale, expanding throughout south and east Kent, to now countywide provision. The Harbour Project (described above) was set up in October 2014 and whilst it is time-limited to 10 sessions we have experience of longer-term therapeutic support, and are currently piloting a 30 session model for one service user. Feedback from a parent: “the lady providing our care was very nice and attentive to mine and my child’s needs. She has helped us immensely through a very hard and troubling time.”

We provide support for young people (males and females) aged 11 – 25 who have a learning disability and are at risk of, or experiencing sexual exploitation. Support can be delivered through 1:1 sessions or group work. The service aims to build a therapeutic relationship and give young people a safe space and tools to reflect on their experiences using socio-educative approaches. Issues explored may include emotions, healthy/unhealthy relationships, self-esteem, safety, consent, grooming and exploitation. This service is also available to young people who do not have a formal LD diagnosis, but where professionals have observed significant additional learning needs that may prevent the young person from accessing mainstream services.

The nia project is a London based organisation working with women and children who experience sexual violence.
