Barnardos Safer Choices – CSE Advisors Service

Barnardo’s Safer Choices service provides independent support to children and young people under the age of 18 who may be experiencing a crisis and are frequenting Glasgow city centre, including young people who may have run away from their family home or residential care, or who are or at risk of being exploited, particularly through sexual exploitation. The aims of the service are to support children and young people to identify risk and devise strategies to reduce this risk and thus reduce harm.

Remit area: There are 4 sites – Aberdeen, Dundee, Fife and Glasgow.

The Topaz Centre

The Topaz Centre is in a discreet location that is easily accessible by public transport and by car. The Topaz Centre reviews and assesses the service on a regular basis, which enables us to meet the needs of people that have experienced rape or sexual assault. The Topaz Centre provides a caring and informative service suited to meet a client’s needs. We offer a sensitive service for the client and respect their dignity regardless of lifestyle, religion, ethnicity, culture, sexuality and/or disabilities.

The Specialist Health Promotion Team

The Specialist Health Promotion Team within Nottingham CityCare Partnership offers generic sexual health training to any workers in the city of Nottingham who interface with young people along with some face-to-face and project work with young people. Currently the Young People’s Sexual Health Specialist is involved in developing/implementing a cross authority (Nottingham and Nottinghamshire) training strategy for Child Sexual Exploitation. This involves a training programme for workers (statutory/public and voluntary sector) as appropriate and the development of a package to use with young people in various settings. This work has been commissioned by a cross authority multi agency Sexual Exploitation Group.

Safe and Sound Derby

Safe & Sound Derby offers support to young people (male and female) aged under 18 years who are being, or at risk of being, sexually exploited. Safe & Sound, through its Just Whistle training arm (www.justwhistle.org.uk), also provides specialist training and consultancy services nationwide with the aim of increasing knowledge and understanding of child sexual exploitation to ensure that victims across the UK get the help and support they need.

R.I.S.E Reducing Incidents of Sexual Exploitation

‘RISE is a new multi-agency team comprising of Child Protection Police Officers, Missing Persons Officer, Social Workers & CSE Workers from CAN YP Team’ The aim is to: Support & Protect vulnerable YP at risk of, or currently being, sexually exploited By:

  • Raising awareness & reducing tolerance of exploitative behaviour by providing professionals training;
  • Providing one on one support to educate, improve resilience & reduce vulnerability of targeted YP
  • Information sharing to ensure a multi agency approach is adopted to safeguard YP
  • Disrupting, preventing & prosecuting abusers

Prostitute Outreach Workers

POW is a charity that promotes health and dignity in prostitution through empowerment, support and peer education. Nottingham Rape Crisis

Women & girls 14 and over or concerned friends /family can contact us for emotional and practical support. No problem is too small or unimportant if it is causing worry and distress. NRCC acknowledges that sexual violence can also affect men and can now offer them the ISVA service. Men cannot be seen at NRCC but we can offer another safe environment where they can. In the future men will be able to attend Nottingham Sexual Assault Referral Centre (SARC)
