Research into the Experiences and Impact of Online Fraud 2023

Posted on

Crest Advisory, a crime and justice consultancy dedicated to driving positive change within the criminal justice system by collaborating with partners such as the police, government, and technology companies.

We are undertaking a significant research project in collaboration with Birkbeck College (University of London) and the Police Foundation. We aim to gain valuable insights into the impact of online fraud on victims, the challenges they face in reporting and investigating such incidents, and the existing policies and practices in place. By shedding light on these aspects, we hope to contribute to meaningful recommendations for change.

We are seeking individuals who have unfortunately fallen victim to online fraud to participate in a research interview. This interview, conducted online and lasting approximately one hour, will allow participants to share their experiences and perspectives. Participants will receive a €30 Amazon voucher as a token of our appreciation.

Our research spans the summer of 2023, and I would greatly appreciate your help.

The outcomes of this research endeavour will be instrumental in shaping future policies and practices. We plan to publish concise reports and comprehensive long-form information dated for release in September 2024.

Victim and Survivor (V&S) voices and experiences are invaluable to us. Online fraud victims often face challenges in obtaining justice and recognition, and V&S insights will contribute to a better understanding of this complex issue.

By helping in this research, you are actively contributing to positive change and helping us create a more informed and effective response to online fraud.

Do you know V&S, who accesses your service, and who might be interested in participating?

The interviews would be held online via MS Teams and conducted by either a member of the Crest team or the Birkbeck University team – all researchers have significant experience conducting interviews with vulnerable groups. All the information on how the interviews will be conducted is detailed in the information sheet attached.

Let me know if you require any further information.

If you have any questions or require further information, please don’t hesitate to contact me.

I look forward to hearing from you.

Kind Regards
