At Hestia, we support adults and children in times of crisis.

We deliver services across London and the surrounding regions, as well as campaign and advocate nationally on the issues that affect the people we work with. This includes victims of modern slavery, women and children who have experienced domestic abuse, young care leavers and older people. From giving someone a home, to helping them to get the right mental health support, we support people at the moment of crisis and enable them to build a life beyond a crisis. We are supported by more than 630 volunteers across London who provide specialist skills such as art therapy, yoga, IT, gardening and cooking, as well as befriending and fundraising.

St Christopher’s Safe Steps children’s home in West London cares for girls aged 12 to 17 who are at risk of child sexual exploitation or other serious community threats.

About Phil
Phil is an accredited counsellor and psychotherapist specialising in working with boys and men who have experienced recent and/or historic sexual abuse. Since 2004 Phil has worked therapeutically with males affected by rape, sexual abuse, sexual violence and sexual exploitation. Phil is a survivor of sexual abuse/exploitation, an experienced public speaker and has trained thousands of professionals across the country on male sexual abuse/exploitation addressing how masculinity plays its part. Between 2009 and 2018 Phil was the Project Coordinator of The BLAST Project; a male only child sexual exploitation (CSE) service. Whilst at The BLAST Project Phil was instrumental in the development of nationally recognised male CSE resources such as ‘Alright Charlie’, ‘Ryan’s Story’, ‘Brandon’s Story’ and more. Phil managed the nationally recognised male CSE development project ‘Excellence for Boys’ which saw male referrals to 20 CSE services increase from 91 to 249. Phil was also instrumental in the Jack CSE serious case review where it was highlighted he provided good/consistent support. Phil has appeared on TV and in the media on numerous occasions highlighting the abuse of boys and men, and has contributed to various research and publications addressing male CSE. Phil is also a qualified supervisor and supervises trainee and qualified counsellors as well as other practitioners working with vulnerable children and adults. Phil is passionate about ensuring boys and men at risk of, or who have experienced abuse are appropriately identified and supported in a way that promote gender equality and combats gender biased practice ensuring services are appropriately accessible to and inclusive of males. Phil also volunteers with the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) regarding development of new resources.
