Safe@Last – South Yorkshire

Free helpline 0800 335 7233 The helpline provides advice, support and practical help to young people at risk of running away. We prevent children and young people from running again: working with South Yorkshire Police Safe@Last project workers deliver a successful MISPER (missing persons) Scheme for young runaways who are reported missing to the Police and subsequently returned home. We visit children, young people and families and provide ongoing support. We offer safe alternatives to being on the streets; a Children and Young People’s Refuge to provide safe, confidential short term accommodation for children and young people aged 16 and under who are at risk. The Safe@last refuge is the only facility of its kind in England We educate children and young people about the dangers of running away: Safe@Last delivers creative and interactive workshops, assemblies and events to young people. We work with young people, who are on the very edge of society who may not have any other contact with professionals, to support and signpost them to appropriate services.

Safe Hands Project

Safe Hands is a Child Sexual Exploitation Project from The Children’s Society working with children, young people and their families. The project works with boys and girls involved in and/or vulnerable to sexual exploitation in its many forms. In addition, the project also offers training and information sessions to groups and professionals. The project also aims to raise the profile of child sexual exploitation, challenge and change attitudes of practitioners and communities

Rotherham sexual exploitation helpline

A single point of contact for all victims and survivors of sexual exploitation in Rotherham, provided by the NSPCC. The free confidential helpline and email address is available 24-hours-a-day, seven days a week

East Riding CSE Team Youth and Family Support

The East CSE Riding Team has a dedicated team of specialist practitioners to support young people, parents, carers and professionals. The team works closely with partner agencies like police,health,youth and family support and a wide range of other agencies to help early identification of those most at risk of CSE and identify those posing a risk to children and young people. The team also offer support, advice and guidance to professionals and agencies who are working with children and young people affected by CSE.

Cornerhouse

Cornerhouse (Yorkshire), is a voluntary sector agency dealing with all aspects of sexual health, including HIV/AIDS, family planning and prevention of Sexually Transmitted Infections (STIs). We offer a range of services across Hull and the East Riding, particularly (though not exclusively) focussed on the needs of young people, offering guidance, support, training and, most importantly, knowledge. Cornerhouse has recently begun to offer a variety of interventions on the issue of children and young people at risk of sex exploitation. This includes training for professional and young people, one to one and group support for young people thought to be at risk.

Barnardos Turnaround Service

Turnaround is a partnership between Barnardo’s, Bradford Metropolitan District Council and West Yorkshire Police.

Turnaround provides a specialist service to young people which aims to increase self-esteem and fosters confidence, skills and knowledge about reducing the risks and vulnerabilities to sexual exploitation and trafficking.

The service also offers a flexible service to children and young people who are reported missing from home or community homes.

Barnardos Missing Service, Kirklees

The Barnardo’s Missing Service works with young people at their point of return from going missing. We work with those aged 10 to 16 years who live with at home with parent/s and those aged 10 to 18 who are looked after. We work in partnership with Police, Social Care and Health. We offer a confidential service to young people when they return home or to their care base. We are a young people focused service. Our aim is to explore risks and to look at strategies for keeping young people safe. We know that going missing can be linked with risks of sexual exploitation or offending. Our service is short term, which could include family work, parent/ carer support, crisis intervention, advocacy or a volunteer for a listening and support service. We will also offer to support young people to access services and resources they feel are appropriate for them.

The PROTECT Team

PROTECT is a multi agency team consisting of officers from Greater Manchester Police and social workers from Manchester Children’s Services, Barnardos and the Children’s Society. The PROTECT team was formed as a multi-agency project tackling individuals who target vulnerable young people for the purposes of CSE. It seeks to: Safeguard children; Secure convictions against perpetrators; Provide direct work to support victims and their families.

The Phoenix Team (Wigan)

This team aims to aims to identify and prevent the sexual exploitation of children and young people in the borough, making all efforts to identify and develop intelligence about sexual exploitation, including new areas of activity, informing, influencing and campaigning on these issues locally, regionally and nationally. To work directly with young people at risk to develop strategies to protect and promote their physical, emotional and sexual well-being. To work holistically with Gateway (Early Intervention and Prevention Service), Social Care, Brook, Clinical Commissioning Group, Greater Manchester Police, Baranardos and all agencies to collect information which leads to prosecution. Wigan has it’s own CSE strategy to tackle CSE which incorporates 5P’s that each detail a different area of work – Prevent, Protect, Pursue, Prosecute = Public Confidence.

The Men’s Room

The Mens’ Room is an arts and social care agency. We aim to work creatively with men and offer them opportunities to be involved in high quality artistic projects along side providing support for issues that they may have in their lives. The Men’s Room run two creative sessions weekly, WMD which is for young men with experience fo homelessness and/or the criminal justice system and The Blue Room which is for young men involved in sex work or vulnerable to sexual exploitation. All of these sessions have input from both an artistic and social care angle. The Men’s Room offer support in several ways through our weekly Drop in, which is staffed by both Mens’ Room staff and partner agencies who can offer help and support with housing, sexual and mental health,drug and alcohol use and other issues. We also run two weekly outreach sessions in order to engage with young men on the sex work beat and raise awareness of support available. Our support and development worker also offers one-to-one support and a referral system to other agencies. We also offer training to other organisations, particularly focussed on engaging creatively with young men.
